El Campanario is a small Mexican restaurant located steps from the stairway to the famous Puerto Vallarta landmark – Our Lady of Guadalupe church. We had walked past it on various occasions but never stepped in. It wasn’t until I saw a video clip about it that I decided we needed to try it out. We also peeked on Trip Advisor and it was surprisingly fairly highly rated. I say surprisingly mainly since it is small, simple, maybe 5 items on the menu and mainly locals dining there. But you hear it is wise to go where the locals eat since they will know where the good food is.
The food was good. Not amazing but you can’t beat the price – a plate of enchiladas will run you about $5.00. VERY reasonable! Mostly non-alcoholic beverages but they do serve a couple beer options.
If downtown and hungry and want a good meal cheap – I would check out El Campanario for sure. Nothing fancy and not out to impress the tourists but is busy busy – and we had to wait in line to get a table.
